Game 61 - St. Louis Cardinals at Chicago Cubs

April 5 at Wrigley Field in Chicago, IL
ESPN

Opening day!

NL Central rivals!

High expectations! St. Louis trying to get back to the championship series for the fifth consecutive season! Some around baseball talking about the Cubbies possibly getting to the World Series for the first time since the 1740s!

John Kruk&

I apologize for running out of exclamation points, but Mr. Kruk was in attendance, sling and all

and the Cardinals ruined the Cubs' feel-good home opener with a 3-0 victory.

Adam Wainright scattered five hits and struck out six over six scoreless innings and Matt Holliday had a pair of run-scoring singles for St. Louis. Meanwhile, Chicago, with new manager Joe Maddon and new ace Jon Lester, struck out 12 times and left a runner at third in three innings and a runner at second in two frames.

Lester had a so-so National League debut (4 1/3 IP, 8 H, 3 ER, 6 K) and apparently can't/won't/doesn't feel like/leave me alone/stop looking at me! throw the ball to any bases. Color commentator Curt Schilling mentioned it a few times and we had to watch three replays of Lester's last pick off attempt, which came in April, 2013.

The Pick Off, Part 3

Three consecutive replays from three different angles of the same pick off attempt? I nearly coughed I was so excited.

Nicknames that aren't really nicknames
